GIS - 10 May 2024: The Mauritius Emerging Tech Expo (METX) 2024, regrouping local and international exhibitors to showcase the latest advancements in emerging technologies, kickstarted yesterday at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre, in Pailles. The Expo will span up to the 12th of May 2024.
The Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Marie Cyril Eddy Boissézon; the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin; the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office, United Arab Emirates, Mr Omar Sultan Al Olama; and other eminent personalities, graced the opening ceremony.
In his keynote speech, the Vice-President of the Republic of Mauritius highlighted that digital technology is a catalyst for growth and a significant source of employment opportunities. The key to successfully navigate the rapid pace of technology development, he added, is to be open to change and to be willing to learn new things.
According to him, we need to be prepared to adapt to new technologies and to use them at our advantage.
Commending the Information Technology Ministry for organising the exhibition, Vice-President Boissézon underlined that it provides a platform for leading technology companies, and organisations to demonstrate their cutting-edge products and solutions fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among global leaders, decision-makers, policy-makers and professionals.
Furthermore, he recalled that the Prime Minister, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth pledged to transform the economy of Mauritius into an economy in the league of high-income countries driven by technology and innovation and bringing high-level growth, equality and shared prosperity for the Nation.
Government, stated the Vice-President, will further invest in cutting-edge technologies as the country embraces the dictates of the industrial revolution.
On his part, the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Darsanand Balgobin, said that the METX 2024 is not only a showcase of tech solutions, but also a platform for collaborating, learning, and exploration. Our objective is to bring together industry leaders, start-ups, researchers, policy-makers and tech-enthusiasts to engage in meaningful networking, create forged partnerships, and chart a course towards a more technologically-advanced, inclusive future, emphasised the Minister.
Minister Balgobin moreover pointed out that the vision of a dynamic and technologically-advanced Mauritius has come to life through this expo, which he indicated is a melting pot of ideas and innovation that has the potential to redefine the industry and transform societies.
As for Minister Omar Sultan Al Olama, he underlined that the exhibition showcases the seeds of ingenuity and technological leadership. He remarked that it is a testament for the current position that Mauritius holds in Africa and is also a testimony of what Africa can achieve.
