The Government considers performing arts and related activities to be an integral part of education for the full development of the
individual. The theatre, being the quintessential platform whereby artists can thrive and creativity can flourish, is promoted as an
important cultural and educational space. Currently, the Ministry of Arts and Culture has under its aegis the Pointe Canon Open Air
Theatre and the Serge Constantin Theatre. Moreover, the Centre de Lecture et d’Animation Culturelle set up by the Organisation Internationale
de la Francophonie, provides library facilities, promote cultural activities such as theatrical and musical performances, training sessions in
drawing and painting as well as workshops on literacy, slam and storytelling.
Centre de Lecture et d’Animation Culturelle
Since 1985, the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), formerly known as the Agence de Coopération Culturelle et
Technique (ACCT), has set up 305 ‘Centre de Lecture et d’Animation Culturelle’ (CLAC) in 23 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, the
Indian Ocean, the Caribbean and the Middle East for the benefit of 3 million users per year.
