The SME sector is one of the emerging forces of the country’s economy impacting positively on the GDP. Government is committed
to providing a conducive environment for the sustainable development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) sector as well as respond to the
changing needs of SMEs in a proactive manner. To that effect, the SME Mauritius Ltd, operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Business,
Enterprise and Cooperatives, was incorporated in July 2017.
Its main objects are to promote and develop entrepreneurship, and provide the necessary support and assistance to the micro, small and medium
enterprises in Mauritius (MSMEs). It also aims to empower micro, small and medium enterprises to emerge and grow; promote a service delivery
network that increases the contribution of MSMEs in the national economy and devise and implement development support programmes and schemes for MSMEs.
Entrepreneurs may register their enterprises at the SME Registration Unit at the seat of the Ministry of Business, Enterprise in Port Louis.
