Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are now fully recognized as playing a key role in economic growth and in improving living standards. More jobs are being created in small and medium enterprises than in large ones, as indicated by data from the last two censuses of economic activities (CEA) and the Continuous Multi-Purpose Household Survey (CMPHS).
Value added generated by SMEs is also on the rise.

A short publication, based on 2013 available information, to show the importance of the various categories of production units, namely ‘micro’, ‘small’ and ‘medium ’is given below.

Data Series
The statistics refer to the total number of licensed or registered activities and not to the total number of operation units or enterprises. They exclude agricultural activities.
