Financial Services Commission
The Financial Services Commission, Mauritius (the 'FSC') is the integrated regulator for the non-bank financial services sector and global business. Established in 2001, the FSC is mandated under the Financial Services Act 2007 and has as enabling legislations the Securities Act 2005, the Insurance Act 2005 and the Private Pension Schemes Act 2012 to license, regulate, monitor and supervise the conduct of business activities in these sectors.
Financial Reporting Council
The Financial Reporting Council (FRC), a body corporate set up under the Financial Reporting Act 2004. It is an organisation under the aegis of the Ministry of Financial Services, Good Governance and Institutional Reforms. The FRC is mainly responsible for promoting confidence in corporate reporting and good corporate governance.
Financial Intelligence Unit
The Financial Intelligence Unit was established under section 9 of the Financial Intelligence and Anti Money Laundering Act in August 2002. It is the central Mauritian agency for the request, receipt, analysis and dissemination of financial information regarding suspected proceeds of crime and alleged money laundering offences as well as the financing of any activities or transactions related to terrorism to relevant authorities. The FIU also issues guidelines to banks, financial institutions, cash dealers and members of the relevant professions on the manner in which a suspicious transaction report should be made. There is cooperation between the FIU and domestic investigatory or supervisory authorities and exchange of information with overseas FIUs or comparable bodies.
Bank of Mauritius
The Bank of Mauritius was established in September 1967 as the central bank of Mauritius. It was modelled on the Bank of England and was, in effect, set up with the assistance of senior officers of the Bank of England.
