Regional Integration Division
The Regional Integration Division of the Ministry monitors activities relating to the regional organisations to which Mauritius belongs, namely Southern African Development Community (SADC), Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) and the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA). The regional integration portfolio includes also issues relating to African continental integration which has a regional perspective. It also takes on board the Tripartite SADC-COMESA-EAC process and keeps watching briefs on events taking place in other regional organisations across the world.
International Trade Division (Trade Policy/Industrial Property Office)
The International Trade Division (ITD) is responsible for the formulation and development of trade policies of Mauritius. It aims at creating a conducive trade policy environment for Mauritius to position itself on the world market and to increase its trade share. It is equally engaged in the process of regional integration and international trade negotiations at WTO level.
The Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Trade
The Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Trade (IDFT) was set up in 2007 and operates as a platform under the aegis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade. It also operates as the Ministry's in-house training, capacity-building and thinking-tank platform. The IDFT offers a series of lectures, workshops, as well as opportunities for mentoring and sharing of experiences throughout the year. Though the main audience of the IDFT is the diplomatic cadre and analytic cadres of the Ministry, some events are open to civil servants from other Ministries, the private sector and civil society.
